Joan is one of the most internationally active Spanish musicians of his generation. After being awarded in 1987 1st prizes at both the Jeunesses Musicales and Royal Tunbridge Wells (UK) International Competitions, he made his débuts at London’s Wigmore Hall, BBC-Radio 3 and Madrid’s Teatro Real, that launched him on an international career. He has appeared as a soloist at the major London Halls, International Festivals such as Dubrovnik, Paris, Bath, Perth, Santander, Peralada, or London Spanish Festival, and all the major halls in his native country. He has toured intensively in Europe, as well as America and Asia in recital or concerto performances with orchestras such as the European Union Chamber Orchestra, Prague Chamber Orchestra, Cadaqués Orchestra, Mexico City Philharmonic Orchestra, etc, with conductors like Rozhdestvensky, Entremont, Marriner, Zolman, Polianichko, Ros-Marbà and Noseda, among others, and groups like the Lindsay, Alexander, Endelion and Sine Nomine String Quartets, the Nash Ensemble and pianist Artur Pizarro.
He was a founder member of the Spanish National Youth Orchestra and, along with other outstanding Spanish musicians he founded tha Cadaqués Orchestra where he is principal clarinet. Joan is also principal clarinet in the Bournemouth Sinfonietta. As an orchestral musician he is guest principal in orchestras such as the Philharmonia, London Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Academy of St. Martin-in-the-Fields, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Moscow Virtuosi, Scottish Chamber Orchestra or City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, having played under batons like Gergiev, Harnoncourt, Abbado, Haitink, Spivakov or Marriner.
