The Composition Faculty at Trinity is a dynamic and adventurous department that trains composers for the diversity and realities of professional life. Individual and group tuition is underpinned by the vital combination of traditional techniques with encouragement to explore and experiment with new ideas. Computer and technology based composition techniques are regarded as core skills for all our composers, and we have excellent studio and music technology facilities to support this.

Performance

The relationship with performers is of utmost importance and we are privileged in having a large body of some of the country's finest young players available to us. Composers write works for the College's extensive range of ensembles to perform at important public events and also produce, design and market their own events.

Collaboration

Collaborative skills are central to our ethos and great emphasis is placed upon work with other art forms. As well as collaborating with up and coming film makers, many projects and opportunities exist to work with dancers and choreographers at Laban, our partner college.

Staff & Students

The composition staff are some of the most innovative and dynamic teachers in their field who all look beyond music alone for their artistic influence and expression. We are seeking similarly exciting students who have the ambition and potential to advance and transform 21st Century music making. We particularly welcome students who have an interest in combining styles from a range of influences, not purely contemporary classical.
