Wed 16 Sep, 7.00pmThe Isabelle Bond Gold Medal Award for Excellence in Performance 2009 St John's, Smith Square £10 (£7 concessions) Box Office: 020 7222 1061 Competitors are nominated by the Heads of Faculty for their high standard of performance and contribution to the musical life at Trinity College of Music. Watch them complete for the Gold Medal, the College's highest award for solo performance. The origins of this annual competition go back over 100 years to 1905, when the Tallis Gold Medal was presented to Isabelle Beatrice Bond, in recognition of her outstanding mark in the Trinity Licentiate Diploma examination. Desmond Farley, Isabelle's son, inherited the medal and generously offered to return it to the college in memory of his mother. It was then decided that the medal should be awarded by competition rather than solely on the strength of a nomination. Thus the Isabelle Bond Gold Medal Competition was first held in 2000. The Head of each of the six performing faculties nominates one student who, in addition to achieving outstanding marks in their final examinations, has displayed consistent flair, musicianship and professionalism during their course of study. We therefore mark the beginning of the new academic year by celebrating the success of some of Trinity's most outstanding performers from the previous year. Each of these six students is already a winner, and we can look forward to watching their future careers with interest and pride.
