Brodowski Quartet

The Sitkovetsky Trio

The Sitkovetsky Trio, comprising Alexander Sitkovetsky (violin), Wu Qian (piano) and Leonard Elschenbroich (cello), are the recipients of the prestigious new Trinity College of Music Richard Carne Junior Fellowship for Chamber Music.

The trio, who all enjoy varied careers as soloists and chamber musicians in their own right, met at the Yehudi Menuhin School and founded the group in 2007. They have just won the first prize in the International Commerzbank Chamber Music Award and previous awards include the Philharmonia-Martin Chamber Music Award and the Kirckman Society Award and were chosen for the Tillet Trust Young Artists’ Platform scheme 2008.

The trio made their Southbank debut in January 2008 in the Purcell Room, and were recently invited to play in front of Her Majesty the Queen in London. They will make their Wigmore Hall debut this year.

Moscow born Alexander Sitkovetsky made his concert debut at the age of eight and has performed at international music festivals and in famous concert halls in the UK, Israel, Russia, Germany, Italy, Japan and the USA. He has toured with the Moscow Chamber Orchestra and featured as a soloist with the Royal Philharmonic and BBC Concert Orchestras.

Wu Qian, born in Shanghai, was selected by The Independent as a ‘Rising star for 2007’. At the age of 15 she performed Mozart’s concerto in the Queen Elizabeth Hall, Southbank and has since given recitals in major venues throughout Europe.

German Leonard Elschenbroich received a 2008 Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellowship and has received invitations for orchestral performances from international conductors including Valery Gergiev, Semyon Bychkov, Fabio Luisi, Paavo Järvi, Manfred Honeck and Christoph Eschenbach. He has appeared as a recitalist in 18 European countries and recently recorded his debut CD for Naxos featuring works by Alfred Schnittke. He plays the ‘Leonard Rose’ Matteo Goffriller Cello.

As Trinity College of Music Richard Carne Junior Fellows, The Sitkovetsky Trio will coach Trinity College of Music students and provide masterclasses, as well as performing in events such as the College’s French Festival and Mendelssohn Festival, both in 2009.
