John has, throughout his career, combined instrumental teaching with practising and teaching Alexander Technique, performing and coaching. From 1976 to 1986, John was a member of the BBC Symphony Orchestra during which time he also taught at Westminster School. In 1991 he joined the Trinity staff and was that year also appointed to teach Alexander Technique in the Royal College of Music Junior Department. In 1998 John was asked to review a book about Alexander Technique for musicians and in 1999 published a paper on Body Mapping for the Strad magazine. He is currently writing on the relation between practice and performance. John has been a frequent visitor to Finland for Alexander technique courses at Keski Pohjanmaan Konservatorio and has been invited by the Finnish branch of the European String Teachers Association to speak at the 2000 conference. |
