Trinity College of Music is proud to announce that the outstanding cellist Natalie Clein will be joining the Professorial staff at the College from September 2009.

She first came to the world’s attention when, aged 16, she won the BBC’s Young Musician of the Year and in the same year (1994) was the first ever British winner of the Eurovision Competition for Young Musicians.
Other prestigious prizes include the Classical Brit Award for Young British Performer of 2005 and the Ingrid zu Solms Cultur Preis at the 2003 Kronberg Academie. In 2008 she was nominated in the Classical Brits’ Best Female Artist category. She made her concerto debut at the BBC Proms in 1997 and has since performed as a soloist with all of the UK’s top orchestras with conductors such as Sir Charles Mackerras, Gennardi Rozhdestvensky, Sir Andrew Davis, Heinrich Schiff (with whom she studied in Vienna), Sir Neville Marriner, Mark Wigglesworth and Paul Daniel. Her international career continues to gain momentum with concerts in the United States, Canada, South America, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Austria and Spain. I am confident that her wonderful musicianship will not only influence her own students but will be a vibrant force within the whole faculty.”Natalie records exclusively for EMI Classics and her latest recording of the Elgar Cello Concerto with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and conductor Vernon Handley CBE was released in September 2007 to great critical acclaim. She has premiered works by composers such as Peter Mawell-Davies, Thomas Larcher and Elvis Costello and is passionate about combining traditional repertoire with more experimental pieces and reaching out to new audiences. Upcoming commissions include works by the Drum n Bass artist Goldie, following their appearances together on the BBC Television ‘Maestro’ competition, plus a solo work by Fyfe Dangerfield. Natalie plays on the “Simpson” Guadagnini cello (1777).
