The Sitkovetsky Trio, comprising Alexander Sitkovetsky (violin), Wu Qian (piano) and Leonard Elschenbroich (cello), are the recipients of the prestigious new Trinity College of Music Golubovich Junior Fellowship for Russian Chamber Music.
The Fellowship, created through the generous support of The Golubovich Foundation, aims to encourage the performance of Russian repertoire and promote positive Anglo-Russian relations.To celebrate the opening of the fellowship the trio will be performing a free concert in the Old Royal Naval College Chapel on 30th September at 7pm. The programme includes music by Beethoven, Rachmaninov and Smetana and will be filmed for an exclusive DVD.The trio, who all enjoy varied careers as soloists and chamber musicians in their own right, met at the Yehudi Menuhin School and founded the group in 2007. They have just won the first prize in the International Commerzbank Chamber Music Award? and previous awards include the Philharmonia-Martin Chamber Music Award and the Kirckman Society Award. They were also chosen for the Tillet Trust Young Artists’ Platform scheme 2008.They made their Southbank debut in January 2008 in the Purcell Room, and were recently invited to play in front of Her Majesty the Queen in London. They will make their Wigmore Hall debut on the 17th November 2008.As Trinity College of Music Golubovich Junior Fellows, The Sitkovetsky Trio will coach Trinity College of Music students and provide masterclasses, as well as performing in events such as the College’s French Festival and Mendelssohn Festival, both in 2009.
