Transfer of validation
S
ubsequent to the merger of Trinity College of Music and Laban in 2005, and the successful Quality Assurance Agency audit of Trinity Laban as a merged institution in April 2008, Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance now intends to take steps to reinforce the harmonisation and integration of its academic and administrative activities. Moving to a single validating partner will greatly assist in this process, and it is with this in mind that the validation of all Trinity College of Music degree programmes will be transferred from the University of Westminster to City University during the spring and summer of 2009.
Programmes affected include:
- MMus: Master of Music in Performance / Composition / Creative Practice
- BMus (Hons): Bachelor of Music (Honours) in Performance / Indian Music
- FdA: Foundation Degree in Musical Theatre: Performance
In addition, a 1-year BA (Hons) in Musical Theatre: Performance programme will be presented for validation by City University as a progression route for students currently studying on the Foundation Degree in Musical Theatre: Performance.
The transfer of validation will bring to an end the 17-year collaborative relationship between the University of Westminster and Trinity College of Music. This longstanding alliance has enabled significant development of Trinity’s degree portfolio, supporting the College in its aspiration to be the UK’s leading provider of practice-based training for musicians.
City University currently validate Laban’s degree programmes, as well as the newly validated Research Degree Programme delivered in both music and dance by Trinity Laban. The extension of City’s portfolio of validation to incorporate Trinity College of Music as well as Laban will build on the University’s successful 16-year collaboration with Laban.
Derek Aviss, Joint Principal of Trinity Laban and Principal of Trinity College of Music comments: “We are extremely grateful to the University of Westminster for its outstanding support over a very long relationship. Our colleagues at the University have made a major contribution to the exceptionally successful progress that the College has made during this period both in terms of its recruitment to its degree programmes and three very successful QAA Audits. We are looking forward to joining Laban in developing what is for us a new relationship with City University.”
