Trinity College of Music is pleased to announce that Sean Farrell has been appointed as Head of Early Music. Sean has been with Trinity College of Music for eight years, starting as Director of Chapel Music and professor of organ, and becoming Head of Performance in 2002.Sean read music at the University of York, studying organ and harpsichord, and then took the Advanced Diploma in organ at the Royal Academy of Music. For ten years Sean played and conducted regularly with appointments on the Cathedral circuit whilst continuing his studies in Paris and maintaining a busy freelance schedule as recitalist, choral conductor and editor. Since September 2001 Sean has been Director of Music at the Old Royal Naval College Chapel, founding an entirely new and unique musical tradition, which includes its own professional period instrument orchestra. He is studying for a PhD at the University of York and has recently completed two new editions of major works from Handel’s Oratorio and Opera output.Trinity’s Early Music Faculty provides students with a comprehensive survey of music from the Middle Ages to the Classical period. Students may also explore contemporary repertoire for period instruments and develop associated contemporary instrumental techniques. The Faculty aims to meet instrument-specific needs and encourages the individual development of its students. Graduates of the Early Music Faculty are renowned for their creative skills, versatility and professionalism and perform with leading period ensembles including the Rose Consort of Viols, the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Fretwork, The Parley of Instruments, and the Royal Shakespeare Company.
