Eugene Asti studied at the Mannes College of Music, New York with Jeannette Haien where he earned his BMus and MA. He has received numerous awards including a Fulbright Scholarship to study piano accompaniment with Graham Johnson at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, the Ferdinand Rauter Memorial Prize (Richard Tauber Competition) and the Megan Foster Prize (Maggie Teyte Competition).
Much in demand as an accompanist, he has performed with many great artists including Dame Felicity Lott, Dame Margaret Price, Nancy Argenta and Elizabeth Connell, in places such as the Wigmore Hall, the Rome Opera House, the Musikverein in Vienna, the Aix-en-Provence Festival, Paris, Madrid, Brussels, Düsseldorf, Vancouver, and New York. He has devised recital series for St. John's Smith Square and St. George's Brandon Hill to mark the Brahms and Mendelssohn anniversaries in 1997 and in 1999 planned a series for St. John's Smith Square to mark the Poulenc/Strauss anniversaries. For the 2002/3 season he has devised a recital series for St. John's Smith Square which will honour Robert Schumann and which will include recitals by many of today¹s leading artists. He has done much recording work for the BBC, most recently including several broadcasts for Radio 3’s ‘Voices’ programme with Sophie Daneman, Sarah Connolly, Christine Rice, Stephan Loges and Rebecca Evans.
Recent engagements have included recitals with Dame Felicity Lott, Alison Buchanan, Sophie Daneman, Rebecca Evans, Susan Gritton, Stephan Loges and James Rutherford, including live broadcasts from the Wigmore Hall, the Waterfront Hall in Belfast and the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester and at New York's Weill Recital Hall and Lincoln Center.
Upcoming engagements include recitals of both the complete Spanisches Liederbuch and complete Italienisches Liederbuch of Hugo Wolf to mark the one-hundredth anniversary of his death at St. John's Smith Square, a recital at Cleveland's Severance Hall with Dame Felicity Lott, and recitals at St. George's Bristol, the Ittinger Festspiele in Switzerland and New York City's Weill Recital Hall with artists Stephan Loges, Christine Rice, Sophie Daneman, WIlliam Dazeley, Julianne de Villiers, Carolyn Sampson and Sarah Connolly.
On CD, he has recorded songs and duets by Felix Mendelssohn with Sophie Daneman and Nathan Berg, and songs by Fanny Mendelssohn with Susan Gritton, both for Hyperion and receiving much critical acclaim. He has also recorded songs by Eric Coates with tenor Richard Edgar-Wilson for Marco Polo. He has recorded a further disc of songs and duets by Felix Mendelssohn with Sophie Daneman and Stephan Loges which has recently been released and a disc of the complete songs of Clara Schumann with Susan Gritton and Stephan Loges, both again for Hyperion. A third volume of Mendelssohn songs and duets for Hyperion is soon to be released.
Eugene also teaches at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
