Deniz Gelenbe

Pianist Deniz Arman Gelenbe (BMus MSc The Juilliard School) has been acclaimed as one of the best chamber musicians of our time in France.


Critics have been unanimous in hailing her prodigious technique, compelling artistic personality and poetic interpretation. Her extensive solo and chamber repertoire ranges from Bach to contemporary composers.

From her base both in Paris and recently London, she pursues an international performing career. She has been soloist with the Japan Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, Ensemble Orchestral de Paris, Slovak Chamber Orchestra, Ensemble Jean- Francois Paillard in Paris, the Philippines Philharmonic Orchestra, the Presidential Symphony Orchestra in Ankara, the Istanbul and Izmir Symphony Orchestras in Turkey, the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic, the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra, the North Carolina Symphony Orchestra, the Triangle Chamber Orchestra, and the Durham and West Piedmont Symphony Orchestras in North Carolina.

She has performed several times at the Salle Gaveau in Paris, the Tonhalle in Zurich, Wigmore Hall, St John’s Smith Square and Blackheath Halls in London, Carnegie Weill Hall in New York, National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C., the Albi Festival in France, the Istanbul International Festival, the Ankara Festival, the Dartington International Summer School the Ripon Music Festival in the UK, the Ljubjana Festival in Slovenia, and at the Moulin d'Ande in France.

She has also played recitals and in chamber music performances in Japan, Italy, Israel, Belgium, Germany, USA, France and the Netherlands.

A dedicated chamber musician and teacher, Deniz Gelenbe founded and directed for eleven years the prestigious summer academies and chamber music festivals of Semaines Musicales d’Orsay in Paris and Semaines Musicales de Rouen. She has also adjudicated at the Paris International Chamber Music Competition. She has performed with the Talich, Alexander, Haydn, Enesco, Ciompi and Borromeo Quartets and performs regularly in piano duo concerts with Charles Webb.

In 1994, Deniz Gelenbe founded the Arman Ensemble and the Arman Trio which has been performing regularly in Europe and the United States. The Arman Trio has given the first performances of works by American composer Benjamin Lees and Turkish composer Ilhan Baran in New York, Paris and London. They have also premiered ’’Dialogues’’for piano trio and orchestra by Pulitzer Prize winning composer Robert Ward in Durham, North Carolina.

She founded and was artistic director of the Chamber Arts Series 1998-2003, and Schubertiad Series 2001-2006 in Orlando. Deniz has recorded for Hungaroton, Albany, Musician’s Showcase, Arcobaleno and AkMuzik labels.

A native of Turkey, Deniz studied with the renowned pianists and pedagogues Rudolf Ganz, Gyorgy Sandor, Cecile Genhart, Adele Marcus and Jane Carlson. She was Artist in Residence and Associate Professor of Piano at the University of Central Florida in Orlando for five years.

In 2003 she was appointed Keyboard Coordinator for Collaborative Performance at Trinity College of Music, and became Head of the Keyboard Faculty in September 2007 and Head of Keyboard faculty in June 2008. Deniz enjoys teaching and has given numerous master classes in the USA, France, the Philippines, and the UK.
