Jazz trombonist Mark Bassey has a vibrancy to his playing that stretches out into the contemporary field whilst remaining firmly attached to the jazz tradition; equally at ease playing standards and original compositions. Based in Brighton, he can be heard playing up and down the country with the likes of Julian Argüelles, Alan Barnes, Liane Carroll, Simon Woolf & Andy Panayi, Laura Zakian, Renato D’Aiello & Phil Lee, Hans Koller, Terry Seabrook & Spike Wells, and in France with Denis Colin (Paris-based group).
Mark has been involved with jazz education for over 12 years, teaching trombone and running classes in harmony, improvisation, composition and arranging at many colleges including the Royal Academy of Music, Trinity College of Music, Guildhall School of Music, the City Literary Institute, and also the Jamey Aebersold jazz summer school. He is also currently involved with the Associated Board ‘Jazz Horns’ examination syllabus.
