Entrance Requirements
Trinity places greater emphasis on its own audition and tests than on formal qualifications.
As a guide, the minimum standard for Principal Study will be the same as required by the College for entry to full-time Undergraduate study.
Graduates of other disciplines and applicants with relevant uncertified prior learning may also apply. The College will determine academic module choices for these applicants.
Applicants wishing to transfer on to, or gain credits towards degree courses at Trinity or other institutions, should be aware of the entry requirements of the courses they intend to apply for.
All applicants should note that the College will not consider applications for deferred entry.
International Students
Flexible Programmes of Study are designated as full-time status. Further information and support for international students is available on our website. |
Trinity College of Music offers a range of programmes tailored to the personal interests and needs of individual musicians.
The programmes are available at all levels from pre-undergraduate to postgraduate and are designed to support the development of students at various stages of their educational and professional development.
Students can choose to study for one semester or two semesters (one academic year) up to a maximum of four semesters (two academic years). Students may start their studies in semester two of the academic year by special arrangement.
Many of the modules available carry transferable Higher Education level credits. Although completion of any of the programmes does not lead to the award of a specific qualification, all students receive a detailed transcript on successful completion of their studies. The programmes can be used to prepare for external qualifications offered by Trinity Guildhall, the International Examinations Board, for which students are entitled to one free entry.
Programmes
The following is a list of common situations where Flexible Programmes are suitable. It is intended to be used only as a guide or starting point in designing your own programme. We realise that many students will fit into more than one situation, for instance international students may wish to take a Gap Year Programme.
The programmes have been intentionally designed to fit the needs of individual students. If not, the Programme Leader will endeavour to tailor a programme to cater for your specific requirements.
Gap Year Programme For students of any nationality who wish to study at Trinity prior to starting an undergraduate course.
International Programme For overseas students who want to experience studying and living in London. Specialist English Language classes are available as an alternative to, or in combination with academic studies for students whose first language is not English.
Advanced Studies Programme For advanced/postgraduate students who wish to further their studies or take a programme of personal and/or professional development in a conservatoire environment.
Core Programme Structure
All programmes are based around a core modular structure. Students can choose between academic classes or English language classes and can further customise their programme by taking additional classes and assessments (subject to payment of the relevant fee).
For the 2008-09 academic year the College is also offering free second study classes in certain instruments (click here). The following table outlines the core module structure for a one year academic programme.
Please note that this programme is not eligible for scholarships from Trinity College of Music or Government funding, and that attendance on the Flexible Programmes of Study does not automatically lead to a place on other courses at Trinity. Any further application would be subject to a competitive audition.
